Landfill Harmonic follows the Recycled Orchestra, a Paraguayan musical group that plays instruments made entirely out of garbage pieces found in the landfill where their community is settled. When their story goes viral, the orchestra is catapulted into the global spotlight. Under the guidance of idealistic music director Favio Chavez, the orchestra must navigate a strange new world of arenas and sold-out concerts.

Unify Challenge — September 8 & 16

As part of our coursework this Summer, we’ll be participating in the Unify Challenge — a virtual, one-on-one conversation with a student from another school. The goal is to practice discussing important issues and collaborating with people outside our normal circle.

The Unify Challenge takes place on September 8 and 16. To take part, just use register and choose the date and time that works best for you.

If you are interested in volunteering at Peace Day in the Park, The Peace and Justice Institute is excited to provide this opportunity for high school students and community members who want to be involved.

• Helping set up our annual human peace sign

• Supporting arts and crafts

• Playing with children in the Resilience Zone

• Helping the stage team coordinate performances the day of the event

In the spirit of America 250 and the celebration of our democracy, the Peace and Justice Institute, the Ismaili Community, and the Global Peace Film Festival are coming together as partners to host a film screening and dialogue featuring acclaimed filmmaker Deeyah Khan and her documentary White Right: Meeting the Enemy. The film offers a powerful example of engaging across profound difference without surrendering humanity, dignity, or moral clarity. Together, we will explore:

How do we practice democracy in ways that deepen human connection, honor dignity, and strengthen our shared humanity?

Following the film Deeyah will join us virtually for a discussion.

FusionFest — Saturday and Sunday, November 28-29, 2026
